How can you recognise tool steel?

You can recognise it by its use — worn drill bits, milling cutters, dies and injection moulds are usually made from this very steel. You can often recognise it by the characteristic grade markings stamped on the surface of the tool.

The content of alloying elements (tungsten, vanadium, chromium) affects the purchase price.

Purchase of tool steel and high-speed steel (HSS)

As well as non-ferrous metals, we also purchase tool steel. We source our material mainly from scrap and non-ferrous metal dealers, as well as from industrial companies – particularly those in the machining sector and those specialising in the manufacture of measuring instruments and professional tools. Our partnerships with major alloy steel manufacturers enable us to offer competitive prices.

High-speed steel (HSS)

High-speed steel is a group of alloy tool steels that cut materials faster than the high-carbon steels of the past. It has high hardness and wear resistance, and does not soften at high temperatures. It mainly ends up as scrap in the form of worn lathe tools, milling cutters and drill bits, for example in grades such as SW7M and SW18.

What determines the price of tool steel?

The value of tool steel scrap is determined by its content of alloying elements: tungsten (W), molybdenum (Mo), vanadium (V) and cobalt (Co). The higher the content of these elements, the higher the purchase price; therefore, we confirm the composition by analysis before valuation. Tool steel can be remelted repeatedly without losing its properties.

Sintered carbides

We purchase scrap carbide inserts and cutting elements (triangular, square, etc.) separately – see our website for details purchase of cemented carbides.
