How can you recognise manganese?

Pure manganese is silvery-grey in colour and brittle. In practice, it is mainly found as a component of alloys (e.g. manganese steel) rather than in its pure form. In its pure form, it oxidises quite quickly in air, becoming covered with a grey layer of oxide.

Accepted forms

  • electrolytic plates
  • lumps
  • granules
  • powder
  • metallic manganese

We determine the manganese content of the alloys supplied by means of analysis prior to quotation.
