How can you recognise tin?

It is characterised by a bright, silvery sheen and a distinct softness — it can easily be bent by hand. When bent, it emits a characteristic crackling sound („the cry of tin”). Due to its low melting point (approx. 232°C), it is easy to distinguish it from harder non-ferrous metals.

We verify the tin content in solder alloys and scrap metal using XRF analysis.

Scrap tin collection – types, alloys and prices

As well as basic non-ferrous metals, we purchase tin in all its forms. Thanks to its low melting point and malleability, tin has been used for centuries to make everyday objects, and today it is primarily used for soldering and as an anti-corrosion coating on other metals.

In what form do we purchase tin?

  • solder, including solder wire,
  • castings, ingots, tin bars and rods,
  • tin rods and cubes,
  • tableware, plates and other articles made of tin and its alloys,
  • production waste, offcuts and scrap.

Purchase of tin containing silver, copper and lead

We purchase both pure tin and tin alloys:

  • Tin-silver (SnAg, SAC) – lead-free solders used in electronics; these are supplied to us as production waste, splices and scrap. For silver-based alloys, we pay for both tin and silver, according to formulas based on LME quotations.
  • Tin and copper (SnCu) – lead-free adhesives for electronics, plumbing and refrigeration systems.
  • Tin-lead (SnPb, LC) – traditional solder for electronics, sheet metal, gutters and plumbing.
  • Tin-based bearing alloys (Babbitt, Ł80–Ł93) – from the bearing shells and plain bearings of machinery, turbines and compressors.

Types of tin and their uses

Type Examples Application
Tin and lead LC60, LC63, LC50 soldering of electronic components, sheet metal, gutters and plumbing systems
Tin-lead (low-tin) LC40, LC30, LC10 larger components, thick pipes, hydraulic systems, pipes and sheet metal in older installations
Tin-based bearing alloys Babbitt I–III, Ł80, Ł83, Ł89, Ł93 plain bearings and bearing shells for industrial machinery, turbines and compressors
Tin and copper Sn99Cu1, Sn99.3Cu0.7, Sn97Cu3, SnCuNi lead-free soldering of electronic components, plumbing, radiators
Tin and silver Sn97Ag3, SAC305, SAC405, SAC387, SAC105, SAC0307 soldering electronics, stronger joints in precision engineering
Pottery tin crockery, plates, mugs utility and decorative items

The tin calculator further up on this page shows the composition and current price of each of these types.

Scrap tin collection – price

Upon receipt, we determine the tin content of the scrap delivered using a spectrometer. The purchase price of tin is based on three factors: the tin content in the alloy, the current LME tin price and the euro exchange rate. We also sell tin to companies that use it in their manufacturing processes.
